Juan Miguel Ortega Herráez, holds a Ph.D. in Translation and Interpreting from the University of Granada, where he presented his dissertation on court interpreting in Spain and the role of the interpreter. He completed undergraduate studies within the triple qualification programme Applied Languages Europe (ALE): Licenciatura en Traducción e Interpertación (Universidad de Granada), Maîtrise Langues Étrangères Appliquées-Traduction Spécialisée (Univesité de Provence Aix-Marseille I) y BA(Hons) in Applied Languages Europe (Thames Valley University London). At the Universidad de Granada he successfully completed the specialisation pathways in Economic-Legal Translation and Conference Interpreting.
He has lectured in translation and interpreting techniques, legal translation and court interpreting at various universities, both at undergraduate and graduate level.
He has been a staff interpreter for the Madrid Regional High Court of Justice (2001-2008) and the National Police Service in Alicante (2008-2011).
He is founding and active member of the Spanish Professional Association of Court and Sworn Translators and Interpreters (APTIJ).
