Francisco José Mas Ruiz is Professor of Marketing and Market Research at the University of Alicante. At present he directs the Post-graduate studies in Marketing at said University.
His university teaching activity has been developed since 1990 at the Faculty of Economic and Business Sciences of the University of Alicante, teaching various subjects in the Undergraduate and Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration and Management and in the Diploma in Business Sciences, such as Market Analysis, Introduction to Marketing, Marketing Management II and III and Marketing Research. Likewise, he has taught since 1995 the doctoral courses in Marketing I and II and Marketing Management in the Doctoral Programs of Applied Economic Analysis and Business Disciplines of the University of Alicante, as well as in the Interuniversity Marketing Doctorate Program of Alicante, Valencia, Polytechnic of Valencia and Jaime I of Castellón.
His areas of research in Marketing are focused on the development of conceptual and empirical models in the field of Competition Analysis, Marketing of Services, Tourism Marketing and Consumer Behaviour. This has allowed him to direct six doctoral theses. His most outstanding works have been published in high-impact international journals, such as Strategic Management Journal, Journal of Business Research, European Journal of Marketing, International Journal of Market Research, International Journal of Service Industry Management, International Marketing Review, International Business Review, Journal of Transport Economics and Policy, Tourism Management and Journal of Travel Research.
He has written several books on competition among strategic groups and the manufacturer-distributor relationship, published by the University of Alicante. Also, a book on Marketing Research with nine editions in the Editorial Club Universitario. He has also collaborated on several chapters of books published by the Generalitat Valenciana, Civitas, Prentice Hall, Nova Science, Fundación Ramón Areces and Rijksuniversiteit.
He has been director of the Marketing Department at the University of Alicante and has participated as director in different competitive research projects on various topics, funded by the Juan Gil-Albert Institute of Culture, the Ángel García Rogel Board and the Valencian Institute of Economic Research (IVIE). Likewise, he has received funding from the Ministry of Education and Science, as well as the Generalitat Valenciana through research projects related to the effectiveness of retail sales promotions, and the rivalry among strategic groups.
Apart from his academic activity, he has participated as a consultant in research contracts with companies, whose objective has been to analyze the location of the new Elda fairground (Institución Ferial Alicantina) and the preparation of the Territorial Action Plan for commercial distribution in the Valencian Community (Generalitat Valenciana). And he has worked as a consultant and in training programs for executives of companies in the province of Valencia within the ELAN project of the European Social Fund. Finally, he has given conferences and seminars at various Spanish and American universities.
