Dr. Ester Martínez Martín is a Tenured Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence at the University of Alicante, where she also serves as Deputy Director. Her research focuses on the development of assistive technologies integrating different disciplines such as computer vision, action recognition, and automatic sign language recognition and generation.

She has participated in and coordinated several regional, national, and European projects related to her lines of research. As a result, she has published numerous scientific publications, including articles indexed in the Journal Citation Reports (JCR), book chapters, and collective works. She also supervises doctoral theses and has given guest lectures at prestigious international centers such as the German Aerospace Center (DLR) and the University of Minho, as well as at conferences (IEEE SWYP19: Students, Women in Engineering and Young Professionals).

Among her academic and scientific awards, the following stand out: the Santander X Awards Spain (2025), the Sprint Valoriza – Ciencia Emprende Award (2024), the MUY Young Scientists Award in the field of Robotics (2019) (without public call for entries), the Impulso Award (2019), the New Business Ideas Award (2019), Young Researchers Award in the field of engineering and architecture (2015), and the PAAMS Award for Scientific Excellence (2012 and 2013).
She has also carried out research stays at prestigious foreign centers: Università degli Studi di Genova (Prof. Silvio Sabatini), SungKyunKwan University (Prof. Suthan Lee), Universidade do Minho (Prof. Paulo Novais), Technische Universitat (TU) Wien (Prof. Markus Vincze), and Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha (Prof. Antonio Fernández Caballero), all of which were funded through competitive public calls for proposals.

In addition, she has been the Organization Chair for IEEE-RAS Summer School on Experimental Methodology, Performance Evaluation and Benchmarking in Robotics (2015), 13th International conference on the Simulation of Adaptive Behavior (SAB 2014), 12th International AERFAI/UJI Robotics School on Perceptual Robotics for Humanoids (IURS 2012). She was also co-organizer of some tutorials in international conferences (HRI, 2017; ICINCO, 2014; IAS-13, 2014; IEEE RO-MAN, 2013). She has been member of the programme committee and organization committee in several national and international conferences. She is senior member of IEEE.
