María del Carmen Davó Blanes, senior lecturer in the area of Preventive Medicine and Public Health in the Department of Community Nursing, Preventive Medicine, Public Health and History of Science of the University of Alicante’s Faculty of Health Sciences (since 2013). She holds a PhD and a Second-Cycle Undergraduate Degree in Psychopedagogy (2009 and 2000 respectively), a Master’s Degree in Public Health (1998) and a First-Cycle Undergraduate Degree in Primary Education (1988). She is co-director of the Joint Master’s Degree in Public Health at the Miguel Hernández and Alicante universities (since 2019) and director of the University of Alicante’s Food and Nutrition Centre (since 2019). Coordinator of the second year of the Undergraduate Degree in Nursing (since 2016)

With four 5-year teaching activity periods recognised, she teaches at the University of Alicante, mainly on the undergraduate degrees in Nursing, Social Work, and Human Nutrition and Dietetics, and on the postgraduate degrees in Public Health and in Secondary, Upper Secondary, Vocational and Language Teaching.

Her areas of specialisation as a lecturer and researcher are health promotion in educational settings (addressing issues such as the promotion of healthy relationships and the prevention of gender-based violence in young people), food policies and visual health. She has two 6-year research activity periods recognised, with 63 publications in national and international scientific journals, 23 book chapters and 79 conference papers. She is part of the research groups in Public Health and in Food and Nutrition (ALINUT)

She has collaborated on European projects and led and participated in several national and local projects. For nine years she has led the Network for the Study of Public Health Competencies (RedesCOPS), financed by the University of Alicante to promote educational innovation projects. Also in connection with this line of work, since 2012 she has led the Forum for University Lecturers in Public Health (https://web.ua.es/es/foro-profesorado-salud-publica/sobre-el-foro.html), funded by the Doctor Antonio Esteve Foundation and the Spanish Society of Epidemiology (SEE).

Prior to joining the University full-time (1990), she worked as a teacher in a public school (1990-2000) and was involved in two programmes run by the Social Services Area of the Alicante City Council: the Community-Based Child Protection Programme (1996) and the Prevention and Social Integration Programme (1997).
