Naima Benaicha Ziani is an Associate Professor in the Arabic and Islamic Studies within the Department of Modern Languages at the University of Alicante (since 2010). She holds a degree in Translation and Interpreting (Arabic-English-Spanish) from the University of Oran, Algeria (1988), and from the University of Alicante (2009), as well as a PhD in Modern Languages and Literatures (2018) from the University of Alicante.
Dr. Benaicha Ziani was the founding editor of Revista Argelina, a role she held from January 2015 until December 2019. Currently, she co-directs the Permanent Seminar on Women and Gender in the Arab World and is an active member of the University of Alicante’s Gender Studies Research Institute (IUIEG). She also serves on the Equality Unit of the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters, is a member of the “Laboratoire des Archives Cinématographiques” at the University of Oran 1 (Algeria), and is responsible for Cooperation within the UNESCO Chair on Education, Research, and Digital Inclusion. Additionally, she is part of the Interdisciplinary Research Group on University Teaching—Education and Information and Communication Technologies/Inclusive Education (GIDU-EDUTIC/IN).
Between 2014 and 2022, Dr. Benaicha Ziani was a visiting professor at several Algerian universities, including Oran, Algiers, Biskra, and Tlemcen. She has also taught at prominent European institutions such as the University of Liège (Belgium), the University of Warsaw (Poland), the Università degli Studi di Bari Aldo Moro and Ca’ Foscari University of Venice (Italy), as well as Allameh Tabataba'i University (Iran) (2015–2019).
She is recognized as an academic expert in institutional projects funded by the European Union, such as Transform4Europe (T4EU): The European University for Knowledge Entrepreneurs. She has also served as Project Manager for various international cooperation projects in higher education (CBHE), funded by the Erasmus+ programme, including “FREE: Female Academic Role Model Empowerment, Equality and Sustainability at Universities in the Mediterranean Region: towards 2030 Agenda,” DEMOS: Master Degree in Democratic Governance and Human Rights, and MORALE: Capacity Building for Curricula Modernization of Syrian and Lebanese HEIs and Lifelong Learning Provision, with a special focus on sustainable NGO management and refugee issues, among others.
Most recently, Dr. Benaicha Ziani was appointed Cultural Advisor by the Intercultural Hispanic-Arab Circle (CIHAR), where she also serves as Vice President. This appointment recognizes her outstanding expertise and significant contributions to Arab and Maghrebi cultural affairs.
