Juan David Sempere Souvannavong (1973) is Lecturer (2009) at the University of Alicante (UA) and Director of the Department of Human Geography since December 2021.

In 1997 he wrote his Bachelor's thesis on the migrations induced by the decolonisation of Algeria in Alicante; in 1998 he studied at the Migrinter laboratory of the University of Poitiers (France) a DEA (Diplôme d'Études Approfondies) on international migrations and in 2002 he defended his thesis on Moroccans from the Eastern region of Morocco in the agriculture of the Campo de Cartagena.

His research is devoted to the study of the population in Spain and the study of migration and mobility, with a special focus on the Maghreb. He is the author or co-author of several books, articles and book chapters, almost all of them on migration. He has directed two research projects, one on the urban degradation of Parque Ansaldo (Alicante) funded by the UA and others on current migrations between Western Algeria and Spain funded by AECID. He has also participated since 1999 in four other projects of the Spanish Ministry on migration. Among the foreign research centres where he has spent periods of time, the Centre Jacques Berque in Rabat (Morocco), the Colegio de la Frontera Norte in Tijuana (Mexico), the Centre National de Recherche en Anthropologie Sociale et Culturelle in Oran (Algeria), the Institut national d'études démographiques (Paris) and the University of Bari (Italy).

Among the subjects he has taught are "Human Geography", "Urban Geography", "Forced Migrations" and "Geography of Migrations" in undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
