Raúl Ruiz Callado earned his PhD in Sociology from the University de Alicante (2005), where he also received the PhD and Second-Cycle Undergraduate Degree Special Award (1995-1999). He is currently a senior lecturer at the Department of Sociology I of the University of Alicante’s Faculty of Economic and Business Sciences and an associate researcher at the Centre de recherche en immigration, ethnicité et citoyenneté (CRIEC) of the University of Quebec in Montreal (UQÀM).
Guest lecturer at the University of Florence (2003), the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (2004, 2005 and 2006), the University of Geneva (2005), the University of Montpellier (2005 and 2008), the University of Quebec (2009), the Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences-FLACSO (2010), Provence-Aix-Marseille University 1 (2011), the University of El Salvador (2014), the University of Oran (2014), the University of Guanajuato (2016), the Dr. José Matías Delgado University, the San Carlos University of Guatemala (2018) and Loyola University Chicago (2020). Over the last few years, he has directed research projects and sociological studies in his research line (population, social change and health).
He has been a guest researcher at the International Institute for Legal Sociology and the Swiss Forum for Migration of the University of Neuchâtel, Switzerland. Currently, he holds the position of Vice-Rector for Students and Employment at the University of Alicante. Previously, he served as Dean of the Faculty of Economic and Business Sciences at the University of Alicante (2018-2024), President of the Spanish Conference of Deans of Economics and Business (2024), Director of the Department of Sociology I (2013-2018), Vice-Dean (2010-2013), and Assistant Vice-Dean (2008-2010) for internships in companies and institutions at the Faculty of Economic and Business Sciences. He participates in the UA PhD programmes in Health Sciences and Business, Economics and Society at the University of Alicante and is secretary of the Research Committee in Health Sociology of th Spanish Federation of Sociology, after holding his presidency (2017-2020). He has been vice president of the Valencian Association of Sociology (2015-2021) and, now, a member of its board of directors. occupies a voice on the board of directors. Member of the Expert Committee of the Observatory on Coexistence in Valencia Region Schools, the Joint Committee of the Alicante Province Migration Observatory, the Advisory Committee of Revista Española de Sociología (RES) and the Research Committee on Clinical Sociology of the International Sociological Association (ISA). He was one of the founders of Research on Educational Innovation in Socioeconomics (REIS-GITE), a group promoting technological and educational innovation.
