Raúl Ruiz Callado holds a PhD in Sociology from the University of Alicante (2005), with extraordinary PhD and undergraduate degree awards (1995-1999). He currently works as a professor in the Department of Sociology I at the Faculty of Economics and Business Sciences of the University of Alicante and is an associate researcher at the Centre de recherche en immigration, ethnicité et citoyenneté (CRIEC) of the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQÀM).

As a visiting professor at the University of Florence (2003), the University of Tras-os-Montes e Alto Douro (2004, 2005, and 2006), the University of Geneva (2005), the University of Montpellier (2005 and 2008), the University of Québec (2009), the Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences-FLACSO (2010), the University of Provence-Aix-Marseille I (2011), the University of El Salvador (2014), the University of Oran (2014), the University of Guanajuato (2016, 2024, and 2025), Dr. José Matías Delgado University, the University of San Carlos de Guatemala (2018), and Loyola University Chicago (2020), he has directed research projects and sociological studies in recent years in his area of specialization: population, social change, and health.

He has been a visiting researcher at the International Institute for the Sociology of Law and the Swiss Forum for Migration at the University of Neuchâtel (Switzerland). Currently, he serves as Vice-Rector for Students and Employment at the University of Alicante and Coordinator of the Employment Working Group within the Student Affairs Commission of the Conference of Rectors of Spanish Universities (CRUE). Previously, he served as Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business Sciences at the University of Alicante (2018-2024), Vice-President (2021-2024) and President (2024) of the Spanish Conference of Deans of Economics and Business, Director of the Department of Sociology I (2013-2018), Vice-Dean (2010-2013), and Associate Vice-Dean (2008-2010) for internships in companies and institutions at the Faculty of Economics and Business Sciences. He participates in the PhD programs in Health Sciences and Business, Economics and Society at the University of Alicante and served as secretary of the Research Committee on Sociology of Health of the Spanish Federation of Sociology, after holding its presidency (2017-2020). He was Vice-President of the Valencian Association of Sociology (2015-2021). He is a member of the Committee of Experts of the Observatory for School Coexistence in the Centers of the Valencian Community, the Joint Commission of the Provincial Observatory on Immigration of Alicante, the advisory board of the Revista Española de Sociología (RES) (Spanish Journal of Sociology), and the Research Committee on Clinical Sociology of the International Sociological Association (ISA). He was a driving member of the technological educational innovation group Research on Educational Innovation in Socioeconomics (REIS-GITE). He received the Professional Career Award granted by the Ibi City Council (2025).
