Mónica Martí Sempere (Alicante, 1965) holds a degree and doctorate in Economics and Business Administration from the University of Alicante. She joined the area of applied economics in 1988 in the Department of Applied Economic Analysis of the University of Alicante. She is currently a university lecturer.
She has been Vice-Chancellor of Economic Planning of the University of Alicante since June 2012. In accordance with her competences, she has always sought a professional economic management, both as regards the management of the treasury and in the budgetary field, in a period of serious economic tensions. This is a strategy that she has also followed, as vice president or CEO in university companies and foundations.
In her academic activity, she also belongs to the Inter-University Institute for Social Development and World Peace of the University of Alicante. She has concentrated her teaching on the area of the Spanish economy, the economy of the European Union and the labor economy. She has participated in the Research Networks in the University Teaching program and belongs to the group of Technological-Educational Innovation.
Her main lines of research have focused on labor market analysis, migration processes and their impact on labor markets, as well as the quality and comparability of statistical sources on migration. The results of this last line have been included in reports by national and international institutions such as the INE, the OECD, the UK Statistics Authority or the European Commission. She has collaborated in and directed several public research projects and is the author of more than fifty works comprising articles in specialized reviews, books, book chapters, monographs and communications in national and international congresses.
In the field of university management, she was Quality Coordinator at the University of Alicante (1999-2001). Then she held the position of Vice Dean for Quality at the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration (2002-2006) and from 2006 to June 2012 she held the position of director of the Secretariat of Studies of the Vice-Chancellorship for Studies Planning. In this period, she assumed the responsibility for carrying out the adaptation to the European Area of Higher Education of all previous degrees which thus obtained the corresponding verification from ANECA for the University of Alicante’s new official degree curricula.
