Msc degree in Physics (1997) and PhD degree in Physics (2001) from the Autonomous University of Barcelona. In 2000 he joined the Department of Physics, Systems Engineering and Signal Theory (DFISTS), at the University of Alicante (UA). Since 2016 he is Full Professor in Applied Physics. From 2009 to 2012 he was a member of the Board of Directors of the Higher Polytechnic School in the UA as deputy director in Postgraduate Studies. From 2012 to 2016 he was the Head of the Department of Applied Physics, Systems Engineering and Signal Theory (DFISTS). From 2018 to 2020 he has been the Director of the Research Institute of Physics Applied to Sciences and Technologies at the UA, and of its associated Doctoral Programme.

His research focuses on holography, mainly holographic recording materials and holographic memories, spatial light modulators based on liquid crystal, optical image processing and diffractive optics, non-linear science and physics teaching. He has published more than 180 articles (more than 100 in impacted journals). He is co-author of more than 220 communications in congresses (16 invited and 2 plenary). He is co-author of 4 book chapters, co-editor of 5 SPIE Proceedings
Volumes, and co-inventor of 2 patents. He has directed several final projects and DEAs and has co-supervised 4 doctoral theses. He is currently member of the Editorial Board for the Journal of Applied Sciences from MDPI Ag. (2017-present).

He has been a principal researcher in 2 research projects and has participated in more than 40 research projects, infrastructure aid, complementary actions and group support, financed by various Ministries of the Government of Spain, by the Generalitat Valenciana and by the UA.

He has done several research stays, funded in competitive calls: in the Physics Department (San Diego State University, SDSU, San Diego, USA, 1999), in the Institut für Technische Optik (ITO) (Universität Stuttgart, Germany, 2004), and in the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) (Braunschweig, Alemania, 2008). He has also done a sabbatical at the Nanoinstitut München - Chair in Hybrid Nanosystems (Ludwig-Maximilian Universität, Munich, Germany, 2020-2021).

His interest in improving the teaching of physics is reflected in the various publications (10), more than 20 papers presented at congresses, and leading 3 educational innovation projects and participating in more than other 10 projects sponsored by the UA. He was a member of the Organizing Committee in 3 national
and 1 international congresses. Since 2013 he is co-organizer (Chairman) of the annual internation congress "Optics and Photonics for Information Processing” (San Diego, USA). He has been a member of the Scientific Committee in 6 congresses, 5 of them international. He is a member of the Royal Spanish Society of Physics (RSEF), the Spanish Optical Society (SEDOPTICA), the European Optical Society (EOS), the Optical Society of America (OSA), where he is Senior Member,
and the International Society of Optics and Photonics (SPIE), where he is Fellow Member. He has been President of the Imaging Techniques Committee of the Spanish Optical Society (SEDOPTICA), and member of its Governing Board (2006-2009, 2012-2015), Chairman of the Spanish Territorial Committee (2012-2015) in the International Comission for Optics (ICO), and Spanish Chairman in the Red Iberoamericana de Optica (RIAO, Iberoamerican Optics Network) (2012-2015).
