Catalina Iliescu Gheorghiu holds a BA in Spanish and English (1989) from the University of Bucharest and a PhD (relevance and translation) from the University of Alicante (2002), where she is a senior lecturer. She is the author of Introducción a la Interpretación. La modalidad consecutiva (Universidad de Alicante, 2000, 2005, 2009) -Romanian version (Institutul European, 2006), Traducerea textului dramatic (Institutul European, 2009), Miniaturas de tiempos venideros (Vaso Roto, Spain & Mexico 2013) a bilingual anthology of contemporary Romanian poetry and Un model polisitemic de analizÄ¿ comparativÄ¿ a textului dramatic din perspectiva traductologiei descriptive (Universitatea Bucuresti, 2018). She is the editor of LAIC Special Issue (2007, 7:2) Intercultural Approaches to the Integration of Migrating Minorities (Routledge), of Translation and Acculturation in the global era (2010) and co-editor of Universe-Cities as Problematic Global Villages: Continuities and Shifts in Our Academic Worlds (PGET/UFSC) together with Jose Lambert. She coordinated a EU project on Intercultural Communication (2002-2004) with 10 universities world-wide (28588-IC-2-2002-1-ES-ERASMUS-IPUC-3) and a machine translation project financed by the Romanian Government (TRAUTOROM, 2006-7).  She belongs to a research team specialized in R+D projects on cultural diversity and sociopolitical influence in transnational migration from two Spanish former colonies.  A peer reviewer of LAIC (Routledge), she belongs to the IPA (Inglés Académico y Profesional research group) and IULMA (INSTITUTO INTERUNIVERSITARIO DE LENGUAS MODERNAS APLICADAS) and to the editorial board of MONTI, an ESCI journal.

She is a conference interpreter and a sworn translator (1995), she chairs “ARIPI” (2005), a cultural association. She has been the Head of the Summer Courses at her university for the last 5 years and coordinator of the official Test Certificate of Romanian Language in Alicante since 2008. She organized four international conferences in the last 10 years. She has been a visiting professor in Spanish universities (Alcalá, Castellón, Complutense) and abroad (Bucharest, Oradea) in postgraduate tuition. She shared PhD tuition in Alicante with professors Baker 2006-7 and Dimitriu 2007-8.
