Enrique Herrero Rodríguez graduated in Chemistry in June 1990 with an honors degree. He started his PhD studies at the Department of Physical Chemistry of the University of Alicante under the supervision of Professor Juan Feliu in September of the same year. During his doctoral studies he stayed for one year at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (USA), for three months at the Institute National Polytecnique de Grenoble (France) and at the Universität der Bundeswehr München (Germany).

He obtained his PhD degree in 1995, with honors. During 1996 and 1997 he made a postdoctoral stay at Cornell University (USA) under the direction of Professor Héctor Abruña. In November 1997 he obtained the position of assistant doctor in the Department of Physical Chemistry of the University of Alicante. He became full professor in September 2000 and full professor in November 2009. Since 2013, he is coordinator of the joint PhD program in “Electrochemistry. Science and Technology”, in which 11 Spanish universities participate.

He has published more than 240 articles in international journals and more than 20 book chapters. He has received more than 13,000 citations to his articles and has an h-index of 67 (Web of Science). In addition to being president of the Iberoamerican Society of Electrochemistry (SIBAE) and vice-president of the International Society of Electrochemistry (ISE), he is a member of the Royal Spanish Society of Chemistry and the Electrochemical Society. At ISE he also served as vice president of Division 7 (2007/08), regional representative for Spain (2014-2019) and chair of the scientific meetings committee (2022). He has participated in the organizing and scientific committee of numerous congresses and was co-chair of the “23rd topical meeting” of the ISE (Toledo, 2019). He received in 2010 the CIDETEC award for the best paper in electrochemistry.
