Vicente Gomis Yagües is a Professor of Chemical Engineering at the University of Alicante (Spain), where he obtained his BS in 1980 and his PhD in 1983, followed by a postdoctoral year with a Fleming Award in the University of Bradford (United Kingdom).

Back at the University of Alicante in 1986, as a full time Professor, he continued his research in phase equilibrium. From 1986 to 1999, he took part uninterruptedly as a researcher in projects financed by the different Spanish National Science and Technology Plans.

Since 2000 Vicente Gomis has lead the research in five different projects from those National Plans. The research field of all these projects has always been the phase equilibrium and its applications. Along the same lines he has mainly worked in the experimental determination, methodology and development of new instrumentation to determine the different types of equilibrium in vapor, liquid and solid phases. In regards the application of the equilibrium of phases to the design of processes and equipment for separation operations, Vicente Gomis has focused his research on the dehydration of bioethanol produced by fermentation, proposing a process that is cheaper than conventional processes and that uses azeotropic distillation with hydrocarbons from gasoline or with only gasoline as a separating agent ("entrainer").

Vicente Gomis has published 89 scientific papers in the most prestigious journals. He has published in the general field of Chemical Engineering and in most specific ones such as the fields of thermodynamics and equilibrium of phases, of which he is a regular reviewer, was the Chairman of the X Iberoamerican Conference on Phase Equilibrium and Fluid Properties for Process Design EQUIFASE 2015 held in Alicante in 2015, having also acted as a member of the committee of the European Union Commission to evaluate technology validation and transfer projects. Moreover, he is usual reviewer of prestigious international journals as Ind. Eng. Chem. Res., J. Chem Thermodynamic, Fluid, Phase Equilib, J. Chem. Eng. Data, etc.

He has also supervised eight doctoral theses, most of them related to the equilibrium between phases or to the phase equilibrium application to separation techniques. He has developed six patents, four of which have been used: three patents have been applied in the toy industry and the fourth and most recent one in the phase equilibrium. One of these patents consists of the design of equipment that determines the liquid-liquid-vapor isobaric equilibrium in heterogeneous systems and is currently being exploited by a German company. This equipment has been sold and is used by many Research Centres around the world. Recently, a new patent in the phase equilibrium field has been registered.

Vicente was the director of the Secretariat of Studies and Educational Innovation of the University of Alicante from 1998 to 2004 and the Director of the Department of Chemical Engineering of the same university from 2005 to 2013.
