Dra. Giménez-Casalduero has considerable experience in research and management of marine and coastal areas, marine pollution and the impact of human activities on biological systems. She has participated in all the steps of planning, implementation and management of Marine Protected Areas. In addition, she works on taxonomy and auto-ecology of marine invertebrates.
She has over 25 years of experience in marine environment research. A graduate in Biological Sciences from the University of Murcia in 1989, she got a doctorate in Biological science at the same university in 1997. During that time received several scholarships and training aids. She has completed research stages in The Oceanography Department of Southampton (UK), Department of fish and fishery in Sicily, CNR of Naples (Italy) and University of Guam (US).
In the first years of professional experience she worked in environmental education. Later she was co-founder member of a consulting firm that specializes in marine environment where she researched during 6 years. Afterwards, during 4 years she was hired as technical assistance in the Directorate General for the Environment, Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Environment of the Region of Murcia, with the task of carrying out the planning and management proposals of the marine environment of Murcia, this was arranged with the position of associate professor in the Department of Marine Sciences and Applied Biology of the University of Alicante since 1999. In 2004 she got the hired Doctor position and currently since 2010 she is a titular professor of undergraduate and graduate in marine biology and biological oceanography. Since 2010 to 2013 is Associate Dean of Marine Sciences of the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Alicante. In 2012 she became Director of the Centre for Marine Research (CIMAR) of the University of Alicante. Over the years she has participated as an expert on various national committees for advice on the marine environment. She has directed many research projects of work order degree and master degree. She directed two doctoral theses in 2011. She has collaborated in more than 80 public and private projects, which has had the opportunity to conduct campaigns and work in different geographical areas. As the result of her work as a researcher, she has more than 40 articles in international scientific journals, more than 30 book chapters and more than 85 conference contributions.
Currently her main research interests has focused on: Ecology of marine invertebrate, evaluation of benthic communities, implementation of the ecology of the marine planning and landscape management and response to water quality and effects of anthropogenic pressures on marine populations and communities .
