Marco A. Celdrán Bernabeu holds a PhD in Tourism from the University of Alicante and is an Associate Professor in the Department of Regional Geographic Analysis and Physical Geography. He has a solid academic, research, and technical background, specializing in tourism spatial planning and new approaches to destination planning and management. His profile combines over a decade of university teaching experience with active participation in competitive and knowledge transfer projects, both nationally and internationally.

From July 2021 to October 2025, he has served as the Technical Coordinator of the University Smart Tourism Laboratory of Torrevieja (TI·LAB), where he has promoted applied innovation initiatives in collaboration with the public sector and the business community.

His scientific output includes more than forty publications, comprising journal articles, book chapters, and papers presented at leading international conferences. He holds one recognized research evaluation period (sexenio) and meets the requirements for obtaining a second one. He has been a member of the University of Alicante research group “Planning and Sustainable Management of Tourism” since 2002.

He serves as a scientific reviewer for indexed journals such as Journal of Destination Marketing and Management, Cities, Current Issues in Tourism, Tourism Management, among others.

He has undertaken academic stays in the United Kingdom, Portugal, Poland, and Finland.
