Academic background

  • DOCTORADO EN CIENCIA DE MATERIALES
Centro de Estudios de Doctorado y Posgrado (29/05/2009)

I joined the University of Alicante as Research Professor in 2019 through the regional talent attraction program CideGenT. My research interests focus on the electronic, magnetic and optical properties of condensed matter systems where quantum effects are relevant, such as topological insulators or low-dimensional systems. I am lately fascinated by the endless possibilities offered by van der Waals materials, which can be isolated in layers one-atom-thick and stacked to form structures where new properties emerge out of the combination of those of the stacked materials.

At the UA, I lead the Quantum 2D materials laboratory. Please visit our website for updated information on our research activity:

Before joining the UA, I was an Ikerbasque Research Fellow in CIC Nanogune, Spain, where I focused my research on the properties of 2D materials (transition metal dichalcogenides), specifically on the study of topological phases and their potential application to spintronics.

During my first postdoctoral stay (2009-2011) at the London Center for Nanotechnology, University College London (UK), I studied single magnetic impurities. While studying there the local properties of CVD graphene, I developed an interest on mesoscopic physics. In 2011 I was granted a Marie Curie fellowship for the study of the properties of 2D-Topological Insulators at Stanford University at the Goldhaber-Gordon´s lab until 2014.
