Gabriel Sansano is a professor at the Department of Catalan Studies at the University of Alicante (Spain), where he teaches courses on Contemporary Literature and Theatre History and Theatre Criticism. His research focuses on theatre from the 18th-century to the 21st-century, with particular attention to short plays of the 18th-century and 19th-century. Among his publications are Sainets il·licitans de la Restauració (1874-1896), (1997) and Història i crítica de la Festa d’Elx, (1998) written in collaboration with Joan Castaño. He led the elaboration of the Diccionari de la Literatura Valenciana Actual, (2002), and he published Un cabàs de rialles. Entremesos i col·loquis dramàtics valencians del segle XVIII (2009). He was the editor of the Nou Diccionari de la Literatura Catalana, led by Dr. Enric Bou (2000) and of the Diccionari de la Literatura Catalana, led by the critic Alex Broch (2008). He is the author of the "El teatre abans del Romanticisme," in Panorama Crític de la Literatura Catalana, vol III. Segles XVI-XVIII, which is led by Dr. Albert Rossich (Barcelona, Ed. Vicens Vives, 2011) , and the coordinator of the cluster "Literatura y cultura catalanas en el siglo XVIII. Estado de la cuestión", Dieciocho. Hispanic Enlightenment, 35.1 (Spring 2012), 89-197. As a researcher, he is a member of the Institut Interuniversitari de Filologia Valenciana (IIFV). He is also a Book Review Editor of the journal Catalan Review (2010-2015). He plays an active role in the Research Group on Performing Arts (GRAE) and in the Research Project Performing Arts Catalan (PRAEC).

During the academic year 2009-2010, he was a Visiting Scholar in the Department of Spanish, Italian & Portuguese, at the University of Virginia (VA, USA) .

Currently he is working on contemporary and comparative theatre.
