I hold a BSc in Marine Sciences and a PhD in Marine Sciences and Applied Biology from the University of Alicante. My doctoral research focused on the effects of environmental change on marine invertebrates and their associated microbial communities, with a particular emphasis on coral holobionts. During my postdoctoral training at San Diego State University, I investigated the interactions between corals and pathogenic bacteria.
My research focuses on the ecology, diversity, and evolution of marine microorganisms and their viruses across a wide range of aquatic environments, from the water column to host-associated microbiomes of marine invertebrates such as corals. I am particularly interested in understanding the ecological and evolutionary processes that shape microbial and viral communities, their interactions within marine holobionts, and their responses to environmental change. My work combines molecular, genomic, and bioinformatic approaches to explore host–microbe–virus interactions and their implications for marine ecosystem functioning and health.
