Second-Cycle Undergraduate Degree in Mathematics (University of Valencia, 1977). Ph.D. in Computer Science from the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV), he is the first professor (1996) in the area of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence at the University of Alicante.

Between 1985 and 1987, he was the deputy director of the Department of Computer Systems and Computing at the UPV, responsible for coordinating the Departmental Section of Alicante. From 1989 to 1991, he held the position of deputy director of the Polytechnic School of Alicante, responsible for the Computer Science degree, and collaborated in the design and implementation of Computer Science University Studies at the Universities of Alicante and Polytechnic of Valencia.

In 1991, he was a founding member and director of the Department of Computer Systems and Computing at the University of Alicante until 1992. He was the first director of the Department of Computer Technology and Computing, which at that time had more than 50 professors in the areas of knowledge of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence, and Computer Architecture and Technology, a position he held between 1992 and 1996. In 1997, the Department of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence of the University of Alicante was established, of which he was director from 1997 to 2004.

He has coordinated and taught various subjects of the Computer Science Studies at the University of Alicante, including Programming Fundamentals, Programming and Programming Technology in the E.U. of Computer Science; Fundamentals of Artificial Intelligence and Artificial Intelligence Techniques in Computer Engineering.

Currently, and since 2012, he is in charge of the coordination and teaching of the subject of Intelligent Systems in the Degree of Computer Engineering of the Higher Polytechnic School at the University of Alicante.

He is also a founding member of the University Institute of Computer Research. He has been the director of the Industrial Computing and Artificial Intelligence research group since its foundation in 1992 until 2004. He has participated as a researcher in more than 30 research projects in competitive public calls, being the principal investigator in 12 of them. He has supervised 14 doctoral theses, has produced more than 150 scientific publications and documents, and has participated in more than 120 Artificial Intelligence conferences.

He has been a member of the Spanish Association for Artificial Intelligence since 1990, having held the position of president of the Organizing Committee of the VI Conference of the Spanish Association for Artificial Intelligence (CAEPIA) in 1995 and president of the Scientific Committee of CAEPIA in 1999. He has been a member of the International Editorial Committee of the "Artificial Intelligence" journal.

Between 2012 and 2019, he held the position of Deputy Director of the Institutional Projects Area at the University of Alicante, coordinating the Strategic Planning of the University of Alicante (PE UA40).

Since 2021, he has been a member of the Scientific Council of the Valencian Graduate School and Research Network of Artificial Intelligence.

He has received recognition for fifteen three-year periods, six sections for teaching merits, and five research sections from the National Commission for the Evaluation of Research Activity (CNEAI).
