Santiago T. Puente Méndez earned a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Alicante in 2002. Currently a senior university lecturer in the area of Systems Engineering and Automation, he has more than 20 publications in ISI’s JCR journals, as well as more than 75 lectures at conferences. Dr Puente has participated in research projects funded through competitive calls. His lines of research mainly focus on robotics: dexterous grasping, deep learning, imitation learning, production automation and automatic disassembly. Besides organising and participating in several teaching conferences, he has conducted research on new technologies applied to teaching and has more than 27 teaching innovation projects. Dr Puente is the author of the book Robots y Sistemas Sensoriales within Prentice-Hall’s “Automática y Robótica” series. He has participated as a guest editor in special issues on automatic disassembly and biosensors for JCR-indexed journals. From May 2013 to January 2019 he served as Academic Coordinator of Infrastructure and Facilities of the Polytechnic School and, from 2013 to January 2018, as Head of Studies of the University of Alicante’s Undergraduate Degree in Multimedia Engineering. Head of Studies (January 2018-January 2019) and Academic Coordinator (February 2019-May 2021) of the University of Alicante’s Undergraduate Degree in Robotic Engineering. Dr Puente is a peer reviewer for the Spanish National Agency for Prospective Planning and Assessment (ANEP), where he reviews projects, and also for international journals and congresses.
