Professor of Civil Law at the University of Alicante (UA). A researcher affiliated with the UA Institute for Gender Studies Research (IUIEG), she is also a member of the UA research groups in Disabilities and Family (GIDF) and Civil Liability, a collaborating member of the International Network of Jurists and Experts on Vulnerability (INJEV) and a member of the Themis Association of Jurists and the Family & Law Platform. She previously served as director of the UA expert course in Real Estate Management and Brokerage (2022-2026) and coordinator of the GIDF (2021-2026).

Her primary lines of research are related to consumer protection (unfair terms), civil liability, gender-based violence, assisted reproductive technology and protection of vulnerable persons. Her research has resulted in more than five monographs, a collective work (as co-director) and more than fifty articles and book chapters published in prestigious journals and presses in the field. She has four 6-year research activity periods recognised by the Spanish Committee for Research Activity Assessment (CNEAI).

She was co-PI of the project “Armonización del Derecho de Familia derivado de las Técnicas de Reproducción Humana Asistida” (“Harmonisation of family law derived from human assisted reproductive technology”, MINECO, 2018-2021) and has participated in other publicly funded research projects. Currently a researcher and member of the projects “Nuevos desafíos del Derecho Biomédico en la protección jurídico-civil de las personas mayores” (“New challenges of biomedical law for the legal-civil protection of the elderly”, MCIU, 2023-2026) and “La nueva era de los algoritmos y la inteligencia artificial y su tutela jurídico-privada en el marco de la Unión Europea” (“The new era of algorithms and artificial intelligence and their legal-private protection within the framework of the European Union”, PROMETEO, 2023-2026).

An evaluator of research projects for DEVA-AAC, ANEP and the Chilean National Research and Development Agency, she also works with various scholarly journals (including ADC, RDP, DPC, InDret and BMJ) as an external reviewer.

She has been a visiting researcher at the Institut de droit comparé Panthéon-Assas (Paris II) and Westfälishe Wilhems Universität in Münster, Germany, also participating in teaching staff mobility programmes in Italy. Professor Múrtula has given lectures at national and international conferences, courses and seminars, and two of her monographs have been cited in decisions by the highest courts in other countries, such as the Supreme Court of Justice of Panama, the Constitutional Court and the Supreme Court of Justice of Colombia, the Supreme Court of Puerto Rico and a decision by the US Federal Court.

As a lecturer, she has delivered courses in civil law and taught on the UA Master’s degrees in Gender-Based Violence Prevention and Intervention from a Multidisciplinary Perspective, in Tort Law and in Digital Society Law, as well as on the UA expert course in Real Estate Management and Brokerage. Furthermore, she has taken part in 13 teaching and educational innovation projects in various roles, including as PI on one of them.
