My teaching and research activity began in 1995 when I joined the UA. There, I became part of the research group in Language Processing and Information Systems led by Dr. Manuel Palomar Sanz, to which I still belong nowadays.

It was then that I started a research work focused on linguistic phenomena, which allowed me to obtain my Research Methods Proficiency Certificate.

This initial work gave rise to a research line in the linguistic phenomenon of anaphora in dialogue systems, which came to fruition with my doctoral thesis, submitted in 2001.

I have directed some research works derived from my thesis ever since, with a focus on determining and standardising time expressions in question-answer systems. My current research interests are information retrieval and extraction, text mining, and opinion mining. These topics have also been addressed in the latest theses I have supervised and others that are currently in progress under my supervision.

As a result of my research activity, I have contributed to 65 publications included in the Web of Science Core Collection, among others. 42 of these contributions are in high-impact journals, indexed in JCR or with equivalent quality criteria, and the rest are conference proceedings with a high scientific interest.

In total, I have given 88 presentations at prestigious international conferences in the field of natural language processing, and 7 invited talks in relevant forums. Moreover, I have participated as a researcher in 36 research projects (9 of them as Project Manager) financed with European (4), national (17), and regional (15) public funds; and 8 research contracts with private entities (4 of them as PM).

I have received 32 grants based on the fulfilment of research objectives (9 of them as PM), and I have also taken part in other R&D actions.

Regarding technology transfer, I have contributed as author of 14 software developments registered in the Intellectual Property Registry and transferred to private entities under a licence. The rest are available for the research community to use.

Besides, I have completed two stays at international research centres, namely a three-month stay at the Istituto Trentino di Cultura in Trento, Italy, through a teacher mobility grant from the Spanish Ministry of Education and Science, and a two-week stay at the University of Wolverhampton, UK, through a grant from the Spanish Ministry of the Presidency for undertaking cooperation projects between the United Kingdom and Spain.

Finally, I have reviewed several manuscripts for prestigious journals indexed in JCR or with similar objective quality indicators, and I have also contributed to the organisation of conferences and other scientific events, 12 times as part of the organising committee (3 as president) and up to 35 times as a member of the scientific committee (twice as president).
