Maria Magdalena Martínez is Full Professor of Legal History at Faculty of Law (2012-). She studied Arts, Humanities (1986), and Law at the University of Murcia (1997). She completed her doctorate in Law (1995) with the dissertation: "La dimensión jurídica del tiempo en el Muhtasar de Halil" under supervision Prof. Dr. Francesco Castro and the doctorate in Ars and Sciences (2016) with the dissertation "La política de los Austrias ante la presencia de los moriscos en los Reinos de España e Indias", under supervision Prof. Dra. Rosa Mª Martínez de Codes. Master in Euro-Arab Sudies (1990) and Master in Instituional English Translation (2008). Tenured lecture in Faculty of Law (1998-2000). Associate Professor of History of Law (2000-2012). She held in the MASTER and Curso de Formación de Derecho de familia Zarraluqui (2005-2011), in the MASTER en Inmigración, Nacionalidad, Interculturalidad (2007-2009), in the MASTER in Inmigración, Familia Internacional y Mediación  (2009-2012), and currently holds the MASTER Historia e identidades históricas en el Mediterráneo (S.XIII-XIX) (2008-) at the Univesity of Valencia.

Martínez Almira research areas range form the Islamic Law in al-Andalus with special focus on private law, justice and management of water, and the process to implement customary and traditional andalusian law after 12th century. Currently member of International Commission for the History of Representative and Parliamentary Institutions, the Instituto Internacional de Historia del Derecho indiano, the Societé d’Histoire du Droit (SHD), the Asociación Española de Medievalistas (AEM), the Sociedad Española de Estudios Árabes (SEEA), the Society for Islamic Legal Studies (ISILS). Member of Observatorio del Pluralismo Religioso en España.

Vicedean of Institutional Relations in the Faculty of Law -UA (2004-2006), Secretary at the Department of Ciencias Histórico-Jurídicas (2007-2009 & 2011-2013), Vicedirector of the MASTER en Inmigración, Nacionalidad, Interculturalidad y Relaciones Internacionales de Familia (2007-2009), and currently Secretary of the Instituto Internacional de Historia del Derecho Indiano (2012-) and Director of the Department of Ciencias Histórico Jurídicas (2015-). Currently member of the Committee of the Codificación Civil Valenciana (2015-). She has published several writings in scientific journals and books on Islamic legal tradition in Spanish Law and Institutions.
