Degree (1999) and PhD (2004) from the University of Alicante, with Extraordinary Doctorate Award and European Doctorate mention. Master's Degree in Education (Complutense University, 2000).

Dr. Maria Ángeles Lillo Ródenas has been working since 1999 in the Carbonaceous Materials and Environment group in the Department of Inorganic Chemistry-University Materials Institute (IUMA) of the University of Alicante, where she is currently Full Professor and Head of the University Materials Institute. She has been a Research Staff Training Fellow (Generalitat Valenciana), and has carried out pre-doctoral stays at international centres (University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, UK and CRMD-CNRS, Orléans, France) and post-doctoral stays at Queen Mary University of London and University College London, the latter thanks to grants for Professors and Researchers from the Generalitat Valenciana. She also obtained the MEC postdoctoral fellowship and a Juan de la Cierva research contract.

Prof. Lillo Ródenas' main lines of research focus on the preparation and characterisation of carbonaceous and inorganic materials, and their application in the areas of environment, energy and biomedicine. In this sense, her research addresses the design and study of advanced carbonaceous and inorganic materials, the fields of gas and liquid phase photocatalysis, heterogeneous catalysis for the revalorisation of lignocellulosic wastes and the adsorption of pollutants in liquid and gas phase.

She is co-author of more than 80 papers published in prestigious international scientific journals, numerous book chapters and 5 patents. She has participated in nearly 50 public research projects funded by European, national and regional plans and in a number of projects with international companies, being principal investigator of several projects applied to industry of great economic importance, which has allowed her to be awarded 1 sexennium of knowledge transfer and innovation.

She has co-authored nearly 150 papers presented at national and international conferences, and has been co-director of 9 PhD theses. She is a censor of more than thirty international scientific journals and has received several awards for her research work.

She is a member of several scientific associations (Spanish Catalysis Society and Spanish Carbon Group) and has participated in the evaluation of company projects. She is currently a member of the Spanish Carbon Group board.

Her teaching tasks at the University of Alicante focus on undergraduate and master's degree courses. In addition, she tutors Final Degree and Master's Degree Projects and Internships, and is currently co-directing 4 Doctoral Theses. Since 2009 she has participated in Teaching Innovation projects and conferences. Between 2011 and 2017 she has been a member of the editorial team of the Bulletin of the Spanish Carbon Group, of which she is currently co-editor-in-chief.
