Pablo Gil received the B.Sc. degree in Computer Science Engineering and Ph.D. degree from University of Alicante, in 1999 and 2008 respectively. He is full Professor with the Department of Physics, Systems Engineering, and Signal Theory, University of Alicante. His research activities have been mainly focused in the fields of computer vision for intelligent robotic systems, robotic manipulation, robotic grasping and tactile perception. In these topics, he has also participated in 23 research projects (2 European, 4 National, 2 Regional projects and 1 Local project as lead researcher), he is author or co-author of more than 100 international scientific publications. At present, he is a member of the research group “Automation, Robotic and Artificial Vision (AUROVA)" and he was the Head of the “Computer Science Research Institute (IUII)" since 2019 until 2023. Dr. Gil is member of some scientific societies such as CEA-IFAC and senior member of Sensors Council and Education Society and IEEE Robotics and Automation Society, being secretary of RAS Spanish Chapter since 2018 until 2023. In addition, he has served as reviewer of several journals (Robotics and Autonomous Systems, International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, Robotics, IEEE Robotics and Automation Magazine, Sensors, etc.) and several international conferences (ICRA, IROS, ICPR, CASE, etc.) as well as he has been guest editor in four special issues of Robotic perception in Journal of Sensors, Robotic Manipulation in Electronics (MDPI), Robotics and Automation Letters (IEEE) and Object Detection in Remote Sensing (MDPI), organizer of some workshops: IFAC-IAD2007, IFAC-IMS2007, IEEE-IROS2020 and, he was a member of editorial board in a well-known journal indexed in Journal Citation Reports, International Journal of Advanced Robotics Systems (2012-2024), as well as Mathematical Problems in Engineering (2018-2022) and Education Research International (2012-2022). Pablo Gil was awarded with the 'Best Paper Award' in ICINCO 2017, "Best poster" in JA2002 and "Best reviewer in Computer Vision" in JA 2015. In december 2011, he was also awarded with the Teaching Excellence Prize as one of the four winners of top teacher of the year at the University of Alicante in 2011. The primary purpose of this award is to acknowledge and encourage excellence in teaching. In recent years, he has collaborated with the Institut Pascal-SIGMA (France) in research topics on intelligent robotic manipulation. In that research center, he was in a research stay funded by the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities. More recently, He is collaborating with Université de Bourgogne (France).
