Eduardo Galante Patiño graduated (1975) and Ph.D. (1978) in Biology from the University of Salamanca. Professor Emeritus of the University of Alicante since September 2023. He was a professor at the University of Salamanca between 1975 and 1991 and a Professor of Zoology at the University of Alicante from July 1991 to September 2023, where he taught and researched entomology. In his long professional life, he has held numerous positions of responsibility: general director of Conservation of the Generalitat Valenciana (1993-1995), director of the Department of Environmental Sciences and Natural Resources (1996-1999), and director of the Center of Universities research. CIBIO Institute, Ibero-American Biodiversity Center (1999-2013) of the University of Alicante. He was president of the Spanish Committee of the World Conservation Union (IUCN) between 2001 and the end of 2007 and president of the Spanish Association of Entomology between 1993 and 2023. Since 2013 he has been director of the Biodiversity Museum-UA located in the city of Ibi. He has been part of Committees of the Ministry of Ecological Transition of the Government of Spain: Scientific Committee of National Parks 2002-2021, Spanish Action Plan against Illegal Trafficking and International Poaching of Wild Species (TIFIES) from 2020-present and the Committee Scientist on the List of Wild Species under Special Protection Regime and in the Spanish Catalog of Endangered Species and Spanish Catalog of Invasive Exotic Species since July 2023. He has been a member of the Committee of Experts on Climate Change and Environmental Participation of the Generalitat Valenciana since 2016, and a member of the International Committee of the World Biological Corridor since 2020.
In 2014, founded the biotechnology company BioNostrum Pest Control S.L, a spin-off of the University of Alicante, to research and develop applications of new insects in the biological control of pests.
He has published more than 220 scientific articles, directed 20 doctoral theses, and more than 45 research projects on entomology, conservation, and biodiversity.
His work in favor of environmental protection has been recognized on numerous occasions, highlighting the Environmental Protection Award of Castilla y León (Spain) 2003, the Augusto González de Linares International Environment Award, Government of Cantabria/University of Cantabria (Spain), 2007, Doctor Honoris Causa from the National University of Piura (Peru), January 2005 and Diploma from the Mames Indians (Boquerón, Chiapas, Mexico) for the protection of cloud forests and the towns of Chiapas, 2004 and Honorary Member of the Spanish Association of Entomology since 2023
