Romina Carla Curone Prieto holds an Undergraduate Degree in Advertising and Public Relations from the University of Alicante (UA, 2016–2020), where she also completed a Master’s Degree in Social Innovation and Dynamics of Change (2021). She recently graduated with a Master’s Degree in Epidemiology and Public Health from the International University of Valencia (VIU, 2025). All in all, she has an interdisciplinary academic background that combines communication, social innovation and public health to address social issues, with a particular focus on gender and consumption.
She was awarded a Distinction for her undergraduate thesis, Análisis de la información empleada en los envases de bebidas vegetales y las motivaciones de compra [“Analysis of the Information Used on Plant-Based Beverage Packaging and the Motivations Behind Purchasing Decisions”], and received a Collaboration Grant from the Spanish Ministry of Education and Vocational Training (2019–2020) to carry out the research project Estudio de la comunicación utilizada por las marcas de bebidas vegetales y la comprensión del consumidor [“Study of the Communication Strategies Used by Plant-Based Beverage Brands and Consumer Understanding”].
Her Master’s thesis on social innovation, entitled Análisis de los discursos sobre masculinidades utilizados en las estrategias publicitarias de la industria alimentaria [“Analysis of Masculinity Discourses Used in Advertising Strategies in the Food Industry”], received a research grant from the Office of the UA Vice President for Research and was awarded First Prize at the 1st Congress on Undergraduate and Master’s Sociological Research in the Valencia Region (ICTFGM), organised by the Valencia Region Association of Sociology (AVS).
Since 2021, she has been a PhD researcher at the University of Alicante (Valencia Region R&D Programme – ACIF/2021/119), where she is conducting her Doctoral Thesis, entitled La construcción de género en la publicidad alimentaria: feminidades, masculinidades y sus narrativas [“The Construction of Gender in Food Advertising: Femininities, Masculinities and their Narratives”].
In addition, she has over five years of professional experience as a Communications and Marketing Director in both public and private organisations, experience that has greatly enriched and informed her academic research by providing an applied, strategic perspective to her analytical work.
She is currently a researcher on the European projects Uni4Equity (“Strengthening Universities’ Response to Sexual Harassment with an Equity Approach”) and ISEDA (“Innovative Solutions to Eliminate Domestic Abuse”).
