I received my Ph.D. degree from the University of Alicante in 1994 with an extraordinary award. Between January 1995 and September 1996, I was a postdoctoral researcher at the University of California, Davis. In September 1996 I joined the Autonomous University of Barcelona where I worked for 18 years, first as an associate professor and since 2011 as a full professor. In 2014 I joined the University of Alicante.

During my period at the Autonomous University of Barcelona I was director of the PhD program in Economic Analysis and coordinator of QEM, the first Erasmus Mundus master in economics in Spain, jointly organized by the University of Paris I, the University of Bielefeld and the University of Venice.  I have been director of the PhD program in Economics and of the Master in Quantitative Economics at the University of Alicante.

I have done several research stays at centers such as the Center for the Study of Rationality in Israel; Rochester University; the University of California at Davis; California Institute of Technology; Northwestern University; Osaka University; Institute for Advance Studies Princeton; Yale University. 

I have been on the editorial board of the journal Mathematical Social Science since 2005, and of the journal Law, Ethics and Philosophy since 2011. I have been co-editor of the Journal of Mathematical Economics since 2020 and co-editor of the volume "The Political Economy of Democracy" published by the BBVA Foundation in 2009.

I have been a member of the advisory committee of the Economics area at ANEP and of the evaluation committee of Ph.D. programs at AQU and Vice-President of the Spanish Economics Association (2018-19).

I have been the General Director of Science and Research of the GVA (July 2019-January 2020) and Regional Secretary of Universities and Research of the GVA (January 2020-December 2022).

My research activity is focused on Social Choice, Mechanism Design, Political Economy, and Contest Theory.
