Alejandro Valdecantos is Professor in the Department of Ecology of the University of Alicante, Spain. He was previously researcher at the Center for Environmental Studies in the Mediterranean (CEAM) for 25 years (1996-2021). He was also part time professor at the Politechnic University of Valencia (2005-2009) and Alicante (2014-2021). During his scientific activity, he has been Principal Investigator of 1 EU, 4 National, and 2 Regional funded projects, including the PROMETEO projects DESESTRES (PROMETEUII/2014/038) and FEEDBACKS (PROMETEO/2009/006), and participated as member of the research teams in additional 16 projects. All his research has been devoted to unravel the scientific basis of ecological restoration of Mediterranean degraded ecosystems, to fight against desertification, to identify impacts of climate change on ecosystems, and to mitigate and adapt its effects. He has been the Spanish representative in the Management Committee of four COST Actions wich deat with ecological restoration, genetic biodiversity, forestry, and climate change manipulative experiments. His research activity produced 37 JCR scientific papers which received more tan 1200 citations (source SCOPUS). Part of his research is included in important international networks, such as Drought-Net and DIGME, which pursue the identification of global impacts of climatic change on soil and plant communities.
