Academic background

  • DOCTORADO ESTADÍSTICA
UNIVERSIDAD CARNEGIE MELLON, PITTSBURGH (EE.UU) (05/12/2004)
  • DOCTORADO ESTADÍSTICA METODOLÓGICA
UNIVERSIDAD LA SAPIENZA DE ROMA (ITALIA) (30/06/1999)
  • LICENCIADO EN CIENCIAS Y TECNICAS ESTADÍSTICAS
UNIVERSIDAD LA SAPIENZA DE ROMA, ITALIA (23/09/1994)

I received a first Ph.D. in Statistics (mainly focused on theoretical aspects of statistical inference) in 1999 from the University La Sapienza of Rome working on model selection problems and a second Ph.D. in 2004 also in Statistics (but more application oriented) from Carnegie Mellon University (Pittsburgh, USA) working on data disclosure limitation problems. The Ph.D. thesis "Decision Models for Data Disclosure Limitation" defended at Carnegie Mellon, has received the "Savage Onorable Mention Award" bestowed by the International Society for Bayesian Analysis (ISBA) and the Section of Bayesian Statistical Science of the American Statistical Association (SBSS-ASA). In 2001 I was funded by a two-year postdoctoral Marie Curie Individual fellowship for Young European Researcher to work on data confidentiality problems at the University of Valencia. I joined the Mathematics Department of the University of Alicante in 2003 as assistant professor and I became associate professor (profesor Titular de Universidad) in 2016. In addition to model selection and statistical confidentiality my research interests include:  time series analysis and spatial statistics, parametric and non parametric inference with applications in medicine, sport, education, and analysis of satellite data. I have participated in several research projects funded through competitive calls of public entities including among others: the  Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation,  the European Union, the Indian Space Research Organization, the Centre National d’Etudes Spatiales, the USA National Science Foundation, the USA National Institute of Statistical Science, and the USA National Institute of Mental Health.  I have also participated as PI in several research contracts with private companies.
