PhD in Computer Engineering from the University of Alicante in 2001. A senior lecturer in the University of Alicante’s Department of Information Technology and Computing since 2003 and a university lecturer since 1995, he has an interest in teaching, as is evident from his publications in this field, his participation in a number of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, and the fact that he has directed many undergraduate theses. He has held several academic positions, including secretary of the Department and deputy director and coordinator of the University of Alicante’s Polytechnic School. He became deputy director of the Department in 2021.
Director of the Research Group in Bioinspired Engineering and Information Technology for Health (IBIS) from January 1997 to January 2020. His research work focuses on engineering (especially computer engineering) applications in the field of health sciences, especially in diagnostic support systems, modelling and simulation of biomedical systems, medical informatics and, in general, artificial intelligence applied to medicine. His most relevant contributions are related to the development of various types of diagnostic support systems applied to melanomas, Alzheimer’s, prostate cancer and urological dysfunctions. He has also conducted research on new methods for the monitoring and follow-up of physical exercise programmes supervised by specialists. He has published scientific articles, most of them in JCR-indexed international journals, and presented papers at national and international conferences. Moreover, he has participated in several R&D projects (in more than half of them as principal investigator) funded by regional, national and international public programmes. Finally, he has been involved in projects and contracts with companies and administrations.
