Graduated in Chemistry at the University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain (1997). Then, I presented my Dissertation about the physico-chemical properties of Co/Ag nanoparticles prepared in microemulsion under the supervision of Prof. M. A. López-Quintela in the Physical-Chemistry Department of the University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain (1997). In November 2003, I obtained the PhD Degree in Chemistry with Summa Cum Laude qualification and with the distinction of European Doctor Mention in the Physical-Chemistry Department of the University of Alicante, Spain (2003) under the supervision of Prof. A. Aldaz and Prof. V. Montiel.

My research is mainly related to the synthesis, characterization, and electrochemical properties of different types of nanoparticles. My overall publication record includes 210 publications (185 research articles, both in multi-disciplinary and leading specialized journals and 25 book chapters, including research (10) and educational (15) book chapters). The quality indices of my research are an h-index of 63 and a total number of citations of  11326 (source Google Scholar 08-11-2023). In addition, I have more than 300 contributions to national and international meetings. During my scientific career I have participated in different research public and private projects, among others 1 LIFE project, 1 ERA-NET project, 12 national and regional projects, 1 national CENIT project and different private projects. I am currently co-PI of the projects PID2019-108136RB-C32 and PID2022-138491OB-C32. I have supervised 2 PhD theses (4 more in progress) and 7 Master's theses (1 more in progress).

My research has been awarded with the (1) Sigma-Aldrich Emerging Investigator Award 2013 to the best scientific career of a Spanish young researcher provided by the Spanish Royal Society of Chemistry (RSEQ), (2) CIDETEC 2005 Prize to the best young researcher of the Spanish Society of Electrochemistry and (3) San Alberto Magno Prize 2004 in Research on Chemistry to the best Doctoral Thesis of the Royal Society of Chemistry of Spain (Alicante Section). Also, my research career has been recognized by the CNEAI with 4 six-year research periods (1999-2004, 2005-2010, 2011-2016, and 2017-2022). I have also contributed to the organization (organizing and/or scientific committee) of scientific meeting including, Mediterranean E3 Symposium (2022 and 2018), Meeting of the Electrochemistry Group of the RSEQ (2023, 2022, 2021, 2019, 2018, 2017 and 2016), 1st French-Spanish Atelier/Workshop on Electrochemistry (2021), 71st Annual ISE Meeting (S20 symposium, 2020), Iberic Meeting on Electrochemistry (2019 and 2017), XXXVII Biannual Meeting of the RSEQ (S10 coordinator, 2019), and 25th Topical ISE Meeting (2019).

I am reviewer of more than 75 international impact research journals including Science, JACS, Angewandte Chemie, among many others. I am also evaluator of research projects for the American Chemical Society Petroleum Research Foundation (USA), the National Agency for Scientific and Technological Promotion of Argentina (Argentina), the French Research Agency (France), the Swiss National Science Foundation (Switzerland), the Spanish State Research Agency (Spain) and the European Commission. I am currently editor of the Journal of Environmental Chemical Engineering and member of the editorial board of the journals ChemElectroChem (Wiley), Frontiers in Chemistry (Electrochemistry), Molecules (Electrochemistry, MDPI), Advances in Chemical Research (LIDSEN Publishing Inc), Eletrochem (MDPI), and PhysChem (MDPI).

Secretary of the Group of Electrochemistry of the Spanish Royal Society of Chemistry (2016-2021) and President of the Group of Electrochemistry of the Spanish Royal Society of Chemistry (2021-to date).
