She has a degree in Archaeology, University of Buenos Aires and PhD in History, University of Valladolid. She is a Researcher at INAPH (I.U.I. en Arqueología y Patrimonio Histórico), Universidad de Alicante, Spain. She has been Vice President of the International Polar Heritage Committee of ICOMOS since 2018.
Maria Ximena has been running research projects on the Archaeology of capitalism expansion into Antarctica in the 19th century, materialities of Antarctic history and master narratives, heritage conservation and tourism in Antarctica.
Project leadership in research projects on archaeology, history, heritage and tourism in Patagonia and Antarctica. Leader of field research in historical archaeology on the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica and in South Patagonia.
