Daniel Rodríguez Valero (Granada, 1973) is a lecturer in graphic design. He earned his second-cycle undergraduate degree in Fine Arts at the University of Barcelona, where he also completed his postgraduate education in digital typography. Later on, he defended his PhD thesis, entitled "Tipografía Digital: Propuesta de un nuevo sistema paramétrico para el diseño y la digitalización de alfabetos" (digital typography: a proposal for a new parametric system to design and digitalise alphabets), and obtained the highest score.
He is the author of the blog tipografiadigital.net, and a writer for Gràffica.info. His latest work is a book, Manual de Tipografía Digital (Campgràfic publishing house), which represents his contribution to the consolidation of typography in Spanish as a discipline.
His work earned him the ADI medal in industrial design, the Accesit Ensayo Award (Fundación Everis), the Juan de Yciar Award for Editorial Quality, and the first prize in the 2015 Clap awards for the best text typography. He has worked for some of the most important companies in Alicante (among which are CAM and Jofel Industrial) as a graphic, product and web designer. At that time, he was also a lecturer at the University of Barcelona. Nowadays, he is a full-time lecturer at the University of Alicante, more specifically in the Undergraduate Degree in Advertising. He devotes his time to drafting and publishing scientific papers in some of the most prestigious publishing houses (Springer Verlag and McGraw, for example) as well as attending first-class congresses as a speaker (ATypI, International Typography Congress and Encontros de tipografia,among others).
He is the director of the University of Alicante's Postgraduate Programme in On-line Communication, which includes web and social network design courses. He is also the co-founder and a lecturer at the UA's videogame creation course, and a former lecturer at the University of Barcelona's Master's Degree in Typography: discipline and uses, and at the Máster ibérico em design (Oporto, Alquimia da Cor and University of Barcelona).
