Ángeles Ródenas holds a PhD in Law from the University of Alicante and is full Professor of Philosophy of Law at the same university. She has been visiting researcher at the School of Law, University of Surrey (UK). She is a member of the Centre for Law and Philosophy at the same university. Her main research areas are: judicial deliberation and legal argumentation; defeasibility of rules; theory of reasons for action; theory of fundamental rights; institutional principles, and legal validity.
She has given postgraduate seminars in a large number of prestigious universities in Europe and Latin America (such as the Universidade Nova de Lisboa, the UBA in Argentina, the UNAM and ITAM in Mexico, the PUCP and San Marcos in Peru, the PUC, UPF and UNIVALI in Brazil), as well as specialized diplomas for highly qualified officials -judges, magistrates and other legal professionals- in relevant public legal institutions such as the Instituto Federal del Poder Judicial of Mexico, the Instituto Electoral Federal of Mexico or the Academia de la Magistratura de Peru. She is the author of six books on philosophy of law: La fundamentación de la autoridad (1996), Razonamiento práctico y reglas (2000); Los intersticios del Derecho (2012); Lineamientos metodológicos para la investigación jurídica. La investigación en filosofía del Derecho (2017); Cuestiones de método y de instituciones (2018), y Validez normativa, razonamiento jurídico y autoridad práctica (2018). She is editor (and co-author) of the book Repensar los derechos humanos. She has participated in relevant collective books, such as El positivismo jurídico a examen (2006), Interpretación y argumentación jurídica (2011), Un debate sobre el constitucionalismo (2012), or La Filosofía desde el Derecho (2016). He has also published numerous papers in internationally recognised journals, such as Analisi e diritto, Isonomía, Revus, or Doxa. Cuadernos de Filosofía del Derecho. She is member of the Scientific Committee of the Italian journal Analisis e Diritto and of the Editorial Committee of the journal Doxa and is member of the external evaluation committees of a large number of prestigious publishers and journals such as Kluwer Academic Publishers, Marcial Pons, Ratio Iuris, Anuario de Filosofía del Derecho, Análisis Filosófico, ACFS or Revus. In the last 10 years she has presented 5 papers at the world congresses of the International Association for the Philosophy of Law and Social Philosophy (IVR) and has coordinated tree working groups in this association (Concept, Conceptions and Limits of Human Rights in 2017, From Values to Rights in 2019 and Current Challenges for Fundamental Rights and Public Policies in 2024).
In the last 10 years she has participated in 5 competitive research projects of the Spainsh Ministry of Education. She has been lead investigator (IP) of the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation Project El reto de la normativa covid para los derechos fundamentales (PID2020-113472RB-100) and is currently lead investigator (IP) of the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation Project Desafíos actuales para los derechos fundamentales y nuevos retos para las políticas públicas: gobernanza democrática, brechas de la desigualdad e inteligencia artificial (PID2023-147126OB-I00).
