Juan A. Roche Cárcel is Professor Culture and Arts Sociology at the University of Alicante. He has recently authored Entre el Monte de Apolo y la vid de Dioniso. Naturaleza, Dioses y Sociedad en la arquitectura teatral de la Grecia Antigua, Anthropos, 2017; and La Sociedad Evanescente, Anthropos, 2009 (in English The Vanishing Society, Logos Verlag Berlin, 2013). Moreover, he has edited Espacios y tiempos inciertos de la cultura, Anthropos, 2007; La Sociología como una de las Bellas Artes. La influencia del arte y de la literatura en el pensamiento sociológico, 2012; and Transitions. The fragility of Democracy, Logos Verlag Berlin, 2016. He has also published many articles in Spanish, European, Latin American and North American specialist journals and coordinated monographic issues in Spain, Argentina, Brazil and Colombia for the following journals, among others: Política y Sociedad, on art and power, issue 46, 2007; Papers. Revista de Sociología, on culture and migrations, issue 94, 2009; Res Publica. Revista de Ideas Políticas, on transitions and the fragility of democracy, issue 30, year 16, 2013; Res Publica. Revista de Ideas Políticas, on bodies and power in ancient Greece, 2016; Política y Sociedad, on the social knowledge of ancient Greeks, as a tribute to Gómez Arboleya, 2016; or Culturas (National University of El Litoral, Argentina), on cinema and society, 2017. He has been research coordinator of the European Sociological Association’s (ESA) Culture and Arts area and vice president of the Spanish Association of Culture and Arts Sociology (AESCA). He has been invited to give lectures or participate in academic activities, among others, at the National University of the Litoral and Buenos Aires (Argentina), at the Pontificia Javeriana in Cali (Colombia) and at the University of Guanajuato (Mexico). He has promoted academic collaboration agreements with universities in Argentina, Colombia, Indonesia and Turkey. At present, he is deputy director of a collection on social sciences and globalisation by Barcelona-based publisher Anthropos.
