Francisco A. Pujol is a Full Professor at the Department of Computer Technology and Computation. He obtained a Telecommunications Engineering Degree from the Polytechnic University of Valencia in 1998 and a Ph.D. in Computer Engineering from the University of Alicante in 2001. Since 2008, he has been a member of the "CAD/CAM/CAE of the University of Alicante: UniCAD" research group. From December 2020 to March 2023, he served as Secretary of the Ph.D. Programme in Computer Science at the University of Alicante. Since March 2023 he is Secretary of the University Institute of Computer Research at the University of Alicante.
He has a solid track record in teaching and research, with four recognised research periods (sexenios). His research focuses on computer vision, mobile robotics, deep learning, and distributed AI systems, with particular emphasis on Federated Learning and edge-cloud optimisation for intelligent environments. He has also worked on the application of Blockchain technologies in combination with Artificial Intelligence, their role in Industry 5.0, and their integration within distributed systems. He has authored more than 130 publications in international journals and conferences and has participated in numerous competitive research projects in these areas.
In the teaching field, he has five recognised teaching periods (quinquenios) and currently teaches in the Bachelor’s Degrees in Computer Engineering and Robotics Engineering, as well as in the Master’s Degree in Automation and Robotics.
In terms of outreach and knowledge transfer, he has focused on educational robotics. He has organised robotics-related activities at every edition of the Nit de la Investigació at the University of Alicante, collaborated for several years with the Desafío Robot competition at the City of Arts and Sciences in Valencia, and has been the organiser of the local FIRST LEGO League tournament at the University of Alicante since the 2019/2020 academic year.
