Professor of Spanish Literature at the University of Alicante. Former adjunct secondary school teacher (1979) and senior secondary school teacher (1981). A second-cycle graduate in Romance Studies (University of Salamanca, 1978) and PhD in Hispanic Studies (University of Alicante, 1987), he has delivered courses and lectures at Spanish and foreign universities and research centres, as well as at more than 100 national and international conferences. He has also participated as a researcher in grant-funded projects and R&D contracts, acted as a jury member for several literary awards (including the Criticism Award and Spain’s National Literary Award), coordinated monographs, directed PhD theses and published over 200 book chapters and articles in journals devoted to language studies. Moreover, Professor Prieto created and directed the Contemporary Spanish Poetry Portal of the Miguel de Cervantes Virtual Library (and was appointed to the Library’s Scientific Committee). He has been a board member of cultural foundations (Miguel Hernández, José María Soler), an advisory or editorial board member of several journals in his field of study, and an editorial or scientific board member of a number of publication series (“Letra Pequeña”, University of Cádiz; “Derecho y Literatura”, Marcial Pons; “Biblioteca Crítica Luis Alberto de Cuenca”). Professor Prieto has also worked as a literary critic for the ABC and El País (“Babelia”) newspapers. Member of the International Association of Literary Critics and Vice Chair of the Spanish Association of Literary Critics.
