Javier Mira Grau holds a university diploma in Social Work (1990), a Master's degree in Family Therapy (1997) and a degree in Sociology (1999). He is a lecturer in the Department of Social Work and Social Services in the Faculty of Economics and Business Studies at the University of Alicante. He currently teaches the subject Professional Skills III for Social Work.
His lines of teaching and research focus on Professional Skills for Social Work and Innovation / Social Entrepreneurship in Social Intervention Projects. He has been visiting professor at Universidad Autónoma (Chile-2003), Universidad Academia de Humanismo Cristiano (Chile-2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007), Universidad Autónoma de Chile (2006), Cologne University of Applied Sciences (Germany-2014, 2017 and 2019), Loyola University Chicago (USA-2020), Universidad Andrés Bello (Chile-2022), Cologne University of Applied Sciences (Germany-2023) and Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences (Germany-2023).
During his teaching career, he has been evaluated through student satisfaction surveys, always obtaining positive results in all evaluations. The average rating is 9.7 points out of 10 in recent academic years. According to the Docentia programme of the UAprogramme, it has received different ratings of "Very favourable" and/ or "Excellent" in its teaching performance. In July 2023 he was nominated in the VI Edition of the EDUCA ABANCA Awards for the Best Teacher in Spain 2023 - University Category.
He is currently Vice-Dean of the Degree in Social Work at the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration of the University of Alicante. Previously, he has been the coordinator of the External Internships of the Degree in Social Work in the same Faculty of Economics and Business Studies. He is also a member of the group of International Mobility Tutors of the Faculty of Economics and Business Studies of the University of Alicante. She is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the Spanish University Association of Social Work.
He is also a member of the evaluation committee of the annual call for grants to non- profit organisations for the promotion of Innovation and Social Entrepreneurship organised by the Local Agency for Economic and Social Development of the Alicante City Council, as well as other Social Entities for this type of social projects. In his professional work prior to university teaching, he was a Social Worker for the Municipal Housing Board of the Alicante City Council for 12 years.
In 2024, the Degree in Social Work of the University of Alicante is the best valued in Spain in the Ranking "50 careers" that the newspaper "El Mundo" prepares annually, occupying this position 20 of the last 21 years.
