Estefanía Micó Balaguer. I studied Biology at the University of Alicante (1990-94). Years later I received my doctorate from the same University, receiving the Extraordinary Doctorate Award. I joined the list of professors at the University of Alicante in 2003, first as a Full Professor, and since 2017 as a University Professor, where I continue to work as a teacher and researcher. I develop my research at the Cibio University Institute (Ibero-American Biodiversity Center) in the field of Biodiversity Conservation and its ecological functions. In this Institute I have developed management functions in the coordination of the Master in Biodiversity of the UA, the academic secretariat of the Commission of the PhD Program on Biodiversity and Conservation and the Research secretariat of the Center itself.
My field of study has always been Entomology, specifically the taxonomy, biology and ecology of coleopteran insects in both the Mediterranean and Neotropical regions. The main line of research that I am currently developing is focused on the study of the saproxylic insects that live in the dead wood of forests and cultural landscapes.
I have been a principal researcher in 4 competitively funded projects, directed 9 Doctoral Theses and published more than 100 scientific articles to date. I give more and more importance to transferring knowledge to society, and that is why I have been co-editor of the Journal of dissemination Cuadernos de Biodiversidad since 2003.
