Antoni Maestre-Brotons is Senior Lecturer in Catalan Studies at the University of Alicante (Spain), where he teaches Contemporary Catalan Literature and Cultural Studies. He has also lectured at the Open University of Catalonia (2014-2019) and was visiting professor at the University of Durham (2017) and Cambridge (2023). He has a PhD in Catalan Studies, a degree in English Studies and Master of Comparative Literature and Cultural Studies. He has authored two books on Catalan postmodernist writers Quim Monzó and Sergi Pàmies: Humor i persuasió (2006) and Essències d'estil (2013). In 2021 his essay Àngels i monstres. Personatges masculins en la narrativa breu de Mercè Rodoreda won the Fundació Mercè Rodoreda award, which was published the same year. Other publications include articles in academic journals such as Journal of Spanish Cultural Studies, Tesserae. Journal of Iberian and Latin American Studies, Catalan Review, Catalan Journal of Communication and Cultural Studies, Sexualities, Caplletra and Comunicación y Sociedad. He specializes in Catalan contemporary literature, Catalan cinema, gender and sexuality studies and cultural studies. In 2024 he received the North-American Catalan Society award for the best article published in Catalan Review (2022-2023).
