I hold a BSc degree in Biology from the University of Alicante (1998) and a PhD in Biochemistry from University College Cork, Ireland (2006). My doctoral studies marked the beginning of a career characterised by multidisciplinary collaboration and a sustained commitment to neurobiology and vision science. After completing my PhD, I undertook postdoctoral stays at two leading research institutions in Spain: the Center for Biological Research Margarita Salas (CSIC) in Madrid (2007–2010) and the University of Alicante (2010–2013). Since 2014, I have combined research activity with teaching in the Area of Human Anatomy and Embryology, where I am currently an Associate Professor. Over the years, I have developed a solid scientific track record, supported by my participation in 22 competitive research projects and six knowledge-transfer projects funded by companies/foundations. I am the author of one national patent and 28 JCR-indexed publications, 15 of which have been published in first-quartile journals. My academic contributions extend beyond publications, including peer review of scientific articles, conference organisation, and the dissemination of my research at specialised forums, with more than 60 contributions to national and international conferences. I have also carried out short research stays at prestigious institutions, such as the University of Alcalá and the Institute of Neuroscience in Alicante (CSIC), which have strengthened ongoing collaborations and contributed to the achievement of high-impact results. In addition, I maintain a strong commitment to the training and mentoring of early-career researchers. I have supervised one PhD thesis and currently co-supervise two others. I have also been actively involved in student training through the supervision of more than 50 undergraduate and master’s theses, fostering a collaborative environment based on scientific rigour and academic integrity.
