He has served as a social worker and coordinator of primary care social services for more than a decade. In 2001 he joined the UA as a full-time lecturer.
In his career as a lecturer, he has taught on the First-Cycle Degree and the Undergraduate Degree in Social Work and on the PhD Programme in Social Welfare and Inequalities (UA). Since the introduction of the Undergraduate Degree in Social Work, he has taught the course “Introduction to research on social work practice”. In the evaluation of his teaching activity (DOCENTIA programme), he has received an overall rating of “Highly satisfactory” (academic year 2018-19: 96.40/100 points; academic year 2019-20: 96.40/100 points; academic year 2020-21: 93.90/100 points).
As a researcher, he has extensive experience in the field of social work and social services (publications, participation in R&D projects and contracts, contributions to conferences). In 2008 he received the 1st Rafael Altamira Social Research Award (Alicante Provincial Council). He has two 6-year research activity periods recognised by the Spanish Committee for Research Activity Assessment (CNEAI).
With regard to research management, he is a founding member and director of the Research Group in Social Work and Social Services (GITSS) (UA), director of the Social Services Laboratory of Alicante (Valencia Region Government-UA) and, since 2019, director of the Scopus-indexed journal Alternativas. Cuadernos de Trabajo Social. He has also directed, and continues to direct, R&D projects and contracts in the field of social work and social services.
He has held the following university management positions: Deputy Director for Training and Educational Innovation at the Alicante-based University School of Social Work (2007-2008), Vice Dean for Social Work Field Practice (2008-2010) and Vice Dean for Social Work (2010-2018) at the UA. He is currently director of the Department of Social Work and Social Services.
