Antonio Ferrández Rodríguez is a University Professor in the Department of Computer Languages ¿¿and Systems at the University of Alicante (Spain), and a member of the University Institute of Computer Research. He is also a member of the Research Group on Language Processing and Information Systems, and a member of the advisory board of the Spanish Society for Natural Language Processing (SEPLN).
He graduated in Computer Science from the Polytechnic University of Valencia in 1990, and obtained his PhD in Computer Science from the University of Alicante in 1998. He has taught in Computer Engineering degrees, in the Doctoral Programs of the aforementioned department and in the Official University Master's Degree in Computer Technology.
His main research interests are natural language processing, linguistic problem solving (e.g. anaphora or ellipsis), syntactic analyzers and Information Extraction, Information Retrieval and Answer Search systems. He has participated in numerous research projects related to these research topics, both public (national and European) and private.
It should be mentioned that he held the position of secretary of the Center for Doctoral and Postgraduate Studies (CEDIP) of the University of Alicante from July 2002 to November 2007. Director of the Doctoral Program “Computer Applications” of the Department of Computer Languages ¿¿and Systems, from April 2001 to July 2002. Treasurer of the Spanish Society for Natural Language Processing (SEPLN), from September 25, 1998 to July 21, 2004, and secretary of the same society, from September 16, 1996 to September 25, 1998. He has also directed the Telefónica Chair – University of Alicante, called “Impact of Human Language Technologies on social inclusion”.
