Manuel B. Crespo Villalba (Burjassot, Valencia, Spain, 1962), PhD in Biological Sciences (Botany) from the University of Valencia, is Full Professor of Botany at the University of Alicante, where he also directs the Research Group "Botany and Plant Conservation”. In addition, he is currently the director of the Department of Environmental Sciences and Natural Resources of the UA. He is the author or co-author of more than 450 scientific and technical publications related to research in plant taxonomy and nomenclature, floristics, biogeography, phytosociology and plant conservation in the Valencian Community and neighbouring territories. He has supervised 15 PhD theses, 7 undergraduate theses and numerous DEA and TFG projects, including international work developed in Mexico, Venezuela, Brazil, Costa Rica and South Africa. His work in botanical research has included the formulation of more than 450 names of plant taxa, which in many cases correspond to new species of Iberian and Mediterranean flora, and the partial or complete revision of various families and genera of plants at world scale (e.g., Limonium, Ceratolimon, Myriolimon, Saharanthus, Wimmerella, Acis, Leucojum, Ornithogalum, Iris, etc.). He participed in the board of authors and editors of the projects Flora iberica, Flora de Andalucía oriental, Flora del Rif and Flora valentina. He is a member of various national and international expert groups, particularly IUCN and OPTIMA. He is also a member of editorial boards or advisers to scientific journals on botany, both nationally and internationally.
