I consider myself an enthusiastic physician specialising in family and community medicine. I have experience in four fields that are, in my opinion, crucial: 1. Clinical care, with about 20 years of professional experience as a family and community physician. 2. Health services management, as I completed a Master’s Degree in Public Health and Health Services Management and served as medical coordinator at the Tomás Ortuño Health Centre in Benidorm. 3. Teaching and research, an experience I acquired during my PhD in Biomedicine at the Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona, with a focus on occupational health from the perspective of gender inequalities. 4. Training in development cooperation and humanitarian aid, with over 20 years’ experience as a volunteer for the Valencia region branch of Médecins du Monde, where I currently act as a spokesperson on matters relating to migration flows.
As for my teaching career, I am a certified supervisor of medical residents (family and community medicine), previously at Catalan Health Institute-run emergency and primary care centres in Barcelona and now at the Tomás Ortuño Health Centre in Benidorm; I also work as an associate lecturer at the University of Alicante, in the Department of Community Nursing, Preventive Medicine and Public Health.
On the other hand, I have extensive experience as a supervisor of undergraduate and Master’s theses. I have also completed a five-year stay with the United Kingdom’s National Health Service (NHS) as a Fellow in Acute Medicine and as a general practitioner in GP practices in Birmingham and Liverpool. Moreover, I did a two-year Master’s Degree in Clinical Dermatology at the University of South Wales in Cardiff and received training in minor surgery and joint and soft tissue injection in primary care at the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) in London. I am currently taking a point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) course offered by the Spanish Society of Family and Community Medicine (SEMFyC).
At present, I combine my work as a family and community physician at a primary care centre with my teaching and research duties at the UA.
