PhD in Hispanic Philology. Professor of Hispanic American Literature at the University of Alicante (Spain). Specialist in colonial Spanish-American literature, my main lines of research revolve around the viceroyal theater, the Chronicle of the Indies and, more broadly, the relationship between literature and history in Latin America up to the present time. On these topics I have been invited as a speaker or lecturer at various Latin American and European universities such as the National Autonomous University of Mexico, the University of Guadalajara, the Catholic University of Lima, the University of Concepción, the Free University of Brussels or the University of Perpignan, among others.

I am the author of the monographs El teatro evangelizador. Sociedad, cultura e ideología en la Nueva España del siglo XVI (Bulzoni, 1999) and Abel Posse: de la crónica al mito de América (University of Alicante, 2004) and responsible for the edition of En torno al personaje histórico (University of Alicante, 2007) and the co-edition of the works Fiesta y teatralidad de la pastorela mexicana (UNAM, 2004), Fiesta religiosa y teatralidad popular en México (University of Alicante, 2006), América en el imaginario europeo (University of Alicante, 2009) and América Latina y Europa. Espacios compartidos en el teatro contemporáneo (Visor, 2015), as well as numerous articles that are part of journals and collective works published in Europe and America.

For more than a decade I have devoted special attention to the figure of Hernán Cortés as a chronicler and as a character in creative works, my most outstanding publication in this regard being the book “Yo, don Hernando Cortés. Reflexiones en torno a la escritura cortesiana (Iberoamericana, 2016).

I am a member of the editorial board of the journal América sin nombre of the University of Alicante.

I was responsible for the Latin America area in the Scientific Committee of the Miguel de Cervantes Virtual Library from March 2005 to December 2012 and member of the Scientific Council of that institution from February 2013 to February 2017.

I have been coordinator of the Master in Literary Studies at the UA (2016-2020).

I have co-directed the R&D Project “Construction / reconstruction of the pre-Columbian and colonial world in women's writing in Mexico”.

Since September 2021 I am director of the Mario Benedetti Center for Ibero-American Literary Studies.
