The Transport Engineering, Territory and Coastal Environment Research Group (AORTA research) aims to study and address those needs related to natural resources, environment and infrastructures in all those aspects related to transport, territory and the coastal environment. Its research offer includes the following activities: field visits; in situ and laboratory tests; quality control; project drafting; technical assistance and works management; preparation of technical reports and expert opinions; traffic, transport and territory projects and studies; coastal environment projects and studies; analysis and modelling of transport networks; numerical wave models, etc.
AORTA has performed a multitude of contracts for knowledge transfer with international and national public organisations -state, autonomous and local- as well as with private companies and institutions. Likewise, the group has attracted funding in various competitive public calls for research projects at national, regional and local levels. The group's scientific production is detailed in the corresponding annual research reports.
The research group uses the different facilities within the Civil Engineering Labs (LabsIC) at the University of Alicante: Transport Engineering lab, Mechanics of Soils and Rocks lab, Construction Materials lab, Durability lab, Large Structures lab, Hydraulic Engineering lab, and Maritime and Environment lab. It has a high efficiency UAS equipment, topographic GPS and Laser Scanner. The group also has specific software for traffic and transport modelling (SIDRA intersection, AIMSUN next), road and railway projects (CLIP, Istram, Autodesk Civil 3D), coastal modelling systems (SMC), GIS systems (ArcGIS, QGIS) and SFM (PhotoScan, ReCap).
