Written and oral comprehension of general legal texts and of those specific areas related to intercultural mediation. I. General aims
1) Developing language and communicative competence in legal English.
1b) Provide students with the basic terminological and communication skills enabling them to include Legal English in their "skills portfolio" for prospective employment. II. Conceptual aims
2) Knowing and mastering the basic terminology of legal English and of the areas dealt with.
3) Knowing the linguistic traits distinguishing the varieties of legal English: terminology, syntax, rhetorical structure and communicative strategies.
4) Knowing the importance of the Plain English movement and its impact on legal English.
5) Possessing a basic knowledge of the legal culture and institutions of English-speaking countries, both in themselves and compared with Spanish.
III. Procedural aims
6) Managing and assessing documentary resources for the comprehension, production or translation of specialized texts, from English into Spanish and vice versa.
7) Being able to support, as far as legal English is concerned, corporate staff participating in trips, trade fairs, trade missions, etc. and managing, organizing, interpreting and drafting texts and documents in legal English in legal contexts.
8) Acting as a language mediator in legal contexts between native and non-native speakers of English or Spanish.
9) Summarize, reformulate and translate specialized texts from English into Spanish and vice versa.
10) Using computer and virtual resources in order to solve linguistic problems regarding the interpretation or drafting of legal texts.
11) Preparing and delivering oral academic presentations in English on legal topics.
12) Using computer resources for the creation of monolingual or bilingual glossaries on legal topics.
13) Using virtual resources in order to obtain information towards the contextualization of legal English or the transmission of such information.

14) Being able to cooperate with legal and other related professionals.
15) Being aware of the contents required in order to develop academic research.
