Course context for academic year 2011-12

La materia que corresponde a esta asignatura se centra en los fenómenos más destacados que acontecieron en la Europa occidental cristiana entre los siglos V al X, junto a otros espacios circundantes como la Europa nórdica y eslava, además de dos civilizaciones de gran relevancia como Bizancio y el  Islam. El periodo temporal a tratar comienza con la crisis y caída del Imperio Romano, la tardoantigüedad y la alta Edad Media.  Los procesos más significativos fueron la desintegración económica, social y política del Imperio, las invasiones de los pueblos bárbaros, la creación de los primeros reinos germanos,el surgimiento de Bizancio y el nacimiento del Islam. Posteriormente se asiste alo que el medievalismo ha definido como el nacimiento de Europa con el Imperio Carolingio y la consolidación del feudalismo.

  • CE2 : Understand the relationship between past and present events, processes and conflicts.
  • CE4 : Master the use of the most significant concepts, categories, theories and themes of the different branches of historical research (economic, social, political, cultural, gender, etc.), as well as appreciating the importance that the different economic, political, social and cultural contexts have for research.
  • CE6 : Acquire the ability to make critical use of documentary historical sources and information gathering tools (document catalogues and bibliographies, archive inventories, electronic databases, etc.).

1. Situar los conceptos y categorías asociados a la Historia de Europa. Comparar estos parámetros con otras sociedades como las tardoantiguas, feudales y preindustriales

2. Conocimiento y familiarización con las fuentes y recursos bibliográficos básicos en la historiografía medieval pasada y reciente.
