Context de l'assignatura per al curs 2025-26

We will build tools and methods needed to rigorously analyze macroeconomic policy and other topical issues. Rather than diving deep into a single topic, the course will cover several key areas in Macroeconomics. Students will be exposed to theoretical and numerical methods to answer policy questions. Students will also have the opportunity to practice their analysis skills for policy proposals.

Specific Competences (CE)

CE1 : Capacity to read Economic research articles in a reasoned fashion and evaluate them critically, understand their essential contributions and weaknesses.
CE2 : Capacity to understand how the technical problems faced by authors of research articles have been resolved in each case.
CE4 : Capacity to understand and reproduce empirical analyses and simulation experiments on which the conclusions of research articles written by other authors are based.
CE5 : Capacity to present important economic problems precisely and respond adequately to said problems by using the techniques learnt on the different courses, using theoretical and empirical analyses or simulations if necessary.

  • RA03 : Analitzar de manera crítica articles d'investigació en Economia, captant quines són les seues contribucions essencials i les seues febleses
  • RA05 : Comprise how have resolved the technical problems with which have had to confront the authors of the articles of investigation and be able to retort the empirical analysis and experiments of simulation in that they base the articles of investigation.

  • RA01 : Comprendre el cos teòric fonamental del camp de l'economia a un nivell formal rigorós.

Comprendre i ser capaç replicar les anàlisis empíriques, l'exercici de calibratge, i els experiments de simulació

Objectius específics indicats pel professorat per al curs 2025-26

  1. Understand the basic dynamic general-equilibrium models used in macroeconomics.
  2. The student should be able to understand and critically evaluate current macroeconomic research articles, grasping the economic rationale and weaknesses of each article.
  3. The student should also be able to understand and replicate empirical analyses, calibration exercises, and simulation experiments on which the conclusions presented in other authors' research papers are based.
